What is Quakerdale?
Quakerdale is a statewide, non-profit, Christian agency providing a continuum of preventive and therapeutic services to youth and their families.
What are the challenges facing families today?
It's not easy growing up today. Families are faced with a multitude of challenges and transitions that place great demands on their resources. In today's world, it's the rare family that is not touched by loss, divorce, stress, substance abuse, economic pressure or violence. Strong family systems provide support for successfully meeting these demands and for encouraging the healthy emotional and physical growth of its individual members. Never more than now has it been so important to build and sustain strong families.
What types of children are served at Quakerdale?
Children are referred for a variety of issues that interfere with their chance to succeed, perpetuating feelings of despair and hopelessness. Common presenting problems include: running away, emotional or behavioral problems, assaultive or delinquent behaviors, school problems, substance abuse, neglect and/or family violence or abuse.
How does a child or family access services provided by Quakerdale?
Youth and families are referred primarily by the Iowa Department of Human Services or Iowa Juvenile Court Services. Private and out-of-state referrals are considered. For more information, contact a Quakerdale campus near you.
How is Quakerdale different from other youth facilities?
Quakerdale services stress individual choice and responsibility, and at the same time recognize the importance of working with the whole family whenever possible. Quakerdale also addresses spiritual needs, through exposure to Christian teachings and values, and the hope offered through a meaningful relationship with God.
What is Quakerdale's success rate?
70- 80% of the youth and families receiving services successfully complete their treatment objectives. Youth and parents report high satisfaction with the services provided, as do referring workers. Follow-up studies show many of the changes have been sustained.
Who owns Quakerdale and how is it governed?
Quakerdale is owned by the Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) and governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees.
How are Quakerdale services funded?
Quakerdale contracts with the state of Iowa to provide services, which covers 85% of the actual costs. The remaining portion is subsidized by private gifts and endowment income.
