Quakerdale Launches Prep Basketball Program to
Provide New Opportunities for Youth
(New Providence) – Quakerdale’s Promise Academy has launched a boys’ prep basketball program under the direction of Stan Hughes. A native of Washington D.C., Hughes has spent over 15 years playing and coaching basketball.
During his career, Hughes coached the D.C. Assault AAU Program, played pro-basketball for the Outlaws, led Simmons College in Kentucky to a record of 132-69, and worked with players including Nolan Smith (Duke), Mike Beasley (Miami Heat), Chris Wright (Georgetown), and Moses Abraham (Georgetown).
The Promise Academy basketball program provides the environment for young men to further develop their skills on the court and their academic readiness for college. With hard work, the achievement of individual goals and collaborations with Iowa colleges and universities, athletes will have opportunities to further their education through basketball.
“My ultimate goal is to change my kids from boys into young men,” says Hughes. “Quakerdale is an open opportunity to build something special.”
Quakerdale has helped children and their families overcome challenges and live better lives for nearly 159 years, serving 1200 in 2009. The Promise Academy, a division of Quakerdale, includes a boarding school which combines academics, life learning and Christian ministry, and serves as a resource to individuals and families throughout Iowa.
