Allan
When Allan came to Quakerdale he had been using marijuana. His highest grade in school was a ‘D.’ His only goal was to move to Canada because he’d heard it was legal to have marijuana. People who really cared about Allan were hurt to see him wasting his potential.
In the seven months Allen was at Quakerdale he grew spiritually and rediscovered the fun of participating in life. His studies improved so dramatically that he made the school honor roll. By the time he was ready to leave Quakerdale, he had become the ‘positive leader’ in his cottage. The other boys set goals to “be like Allan.”
When it was time to go home, Allan chose foster care because old “friends” would be bad influences in his hometown. It was hard for Allan’s family, but they supported him. Allan used his time in foster care to make college plans, and he set goals for the next five years of his life.
Allan gained the confidence to go home on weekends. He is healing the family relationships he almost threw away. Now, when his mother and grandmother are with him, their tears are from joy instead of fear.
Allan wrote to us, “Thank you for showing me options I never knew I had.”
