What is Quakerdale?
Quakerdale is a statewide (Iowa), non-profit, Christian agency providing a wide range of healing and learning opportunities to youth and their families.
How does Quakerdale help families?
Families are faced with a multitude of challenges and transitions that place great demands on their resources. It's the rare family that is not touched by loss, divorce, stress, substance abuse, economic pressure or violence. Strong family systems provide support for successfully addressing problems and for encouraging the healthy emotional and physical growth of its individual members. By turning challenges into opportunities, Quakerdale helps build and sustain strong families.
How does a child or family access services provided by Quakerdale?
Students and families are referred to many of our services by the Iowa Department of Human Services or Iowa Juvenile Court Services. Private and out-of-state referrals are considered. For more information, contact a Quakerdale location near you.
How is Quakerdale different from other youth facilities?
Quakerdale services stress individual choice and responsibility, and they recognize the importance of working with the whole family whenever possible. Quakerdale addresses spiritual needs through exposure to Christian teachings and values, and offers hope through a meaningful relationship with God.
What is Quakerdale's success rate?
70- 80% of the youth and families receiving services successfully complete their objectives. Youth and parents report high satisfaction with the services provided, as do referring workers. Follow-up studies show many of the changes have been sustained.
Who owns Quakerdale and how is it governed?
Quakerdale is owned by the Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) and governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees.
How are Quakerdale services funded?
Quakerdale contracts with the state of Iowa to provide services, which covers 85%-90% of the actual costs. The remaining portion is subsidized by private gifts and endowment income.
